A Case Report of an Extensively Ossified Left Atrial Myxoma

چکیده
A cardiac myxoma, a rare but relatively common tumor, was surgically excised. Histopathological examination of the lesion revealed an extensive internal ossification. Ossification interior myxomas is rarely reported, and most are large tumors; however, this case small tumor. The cause ossification has not yet been clearly reported.

A large myxoma occupying in the left atrium producing mitral stenosis and regurgitation was demonstrated by 2D echocardiographic images in this case. Cardiac myxoma are the most common benign primary cardiac tumors that can lead to many complications as described in literature. Here we report the case of a boy aged 11 that was referred for etiological diagnosis of ischemic stroke. Transthoracic echocardiography reveals a myxoma in the left atrium. Patient was referred to surgery. The diagnosis was confirmed and the mass was completely resected.
